In exceptionally simple terms, there are 3 chief plans used. You must be agile enough to hop between techniques quickly as the course of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This is comprised of creating a 6-deep wall of checkers, or at least as deep as you are able to achieve, to block in the competitor's checkers that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most suitable procedure at the start of the match. You can create the wall anyplace inbetween your eleven-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the match advances.

The Blitz

This is comprised of closing your home board as quickly as as you can while keeping your opposer on the bar. i.e., if your competitor tosses an early two and moves one piece from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a five-five, you will be able to play six/one 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your competitor is then in big-time dire straits because they have 2 pieces on the bar and you have closed half your home board!

The Backgame

This tactic is where you have 2 or more checkers in your opponent's inner board. (An anchor is a point occupied by at a minimum 2 of your checkers.) It should be used when you are extremely behind as it greatly improves your opportunities. The strongest places for anchors are close to your opponent's lower points and also on adjacent points or with one point separating them. Timing is important for a competent backgame: after all, there's no reason having 2 nice anchors and a solid wall in your own inner board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your competitor is getting their pieces home, considering that you do not have any other spare checkers to move! In this case, it is more favorable to have pieces on the bar so that you might maintain your position up until your competitor provides you a chance to hit, so it can be a good idea to try and get your opposer to hit them in this situation!
