The goal of a Backgammon game is to move your chips around the Backgammon board and bear those pieces off the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. How far you will be able to shift your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use a few plans in the different stages of a game dependent on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Technique

The aim of the Running Game plan is to entice all your pieces into your inside board and bear them off as quick as you can. This strategy concentrates on the speed of shifting your chips with little or no time spent to hit or barricade your competitor's pieces. The ideal time to employ this technique is when you think you can move your own pieces faster than your opposing player does: when 1) you have less checkers on the game board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your opponent's chips; or 3) the opponent does not use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Strategy

The main aim of the blocking technique, by its title, is to block the opponent's pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your checkers quickly. As soon as you have created the blockage for the competitor's movement with a couple of checkers, you can move your other chips swiftly off the game board. You should also have a good plan when to withdraw and shift the pieces that you used for the blockade. The game gets interesting when your competitor uses the same blocking strategy.
