The objective of a Backgammon match is to move your pieces around the Backgammon board and pull them from the board quicker than your competitor who works just as hard to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a round in Backgammon requires both tactics and luck. How far you will be able to move your chips is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and how you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing tactics in the different stages of a match based on your positions and opponent's.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to bring all your checkers into your home board and bear them off as quick as you could. This technique focuses on the pace of moving your pieces with absolutely no efforts to hit or barricade your competitor's chips. The ideal scenario to employ this strategy is when you believe you can shift your own pieces a lot faster than the opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the game board; 2) all your checkers have past your competitor's pieces; or 3) your opponent doesn't use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Strategy

The primary goal of the blocking plan, by the title, is to block your competitor's checkers, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your checkers rapidly. As soon as you've established the blockage for your opponent's movement with a few pieces, you can shift your other chips rapidly from the game board. The player will need to also have a good strategy when to back off and move the checkers that you utilized for the blockade. The game gets intriguing when the opposition uses the same blocking tactic.
