As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips heading in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move their pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by creating a prime - ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor's checkers will either get hit, or end up in a damaged position if she ever tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. After you've successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of the opponent, your opponent does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and toss the dice again. You'll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar - to hinder your opponent's positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, however the Back Game strategy uses different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is commonly employed when you're far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
